Day Three: I only worked one more repeat. Sad.

Day Four:

What with the falling asleep, I worked less than one repeat! I am, however, into my last repeat on the body and nearly ready to work the ribbing.

I’m thinking about whether I should block the body before adding the button band, to make sure I don’t work it too wide.

Incidentally, I put the stitches onto a longer circ and discovered how BAD this cable looks on breasts. Alas.

I’m starting to lose interest in this one. Must soldier on.

Day Two: I managed to get another six inches knit on my Quercus.

I have finished the back cable and started the hip shaping, but when I read ahead, I started to have grave doubts about my ability to work the sleeve as stated.

The sleeves are picked up from the arm holes and worked down with short row shaping to make the sleeve cap. It’s an elegant way to work a sleeve, but better suited to working solid rather than in stripes. I’ll do some deep thinking on it.

I’ve also been thinking about my best options regarding the front closure. I don’t think the shawl opening is really going to suit my life, so I’m thinking about changing it to a (smaller) button band, perhaps with ribbing, and probably in solid black.

I love a good challenge, so when the Knitty Surprise pattern release coincided with a week off work, a couple of long drives and some new yarn, well… a challenge was born.

To knit Quercus in one week. Totally doable.

Day One involved a 3 hour drive, a film viewing and a 3am wake up to watch the motoGP. I printed out the pattern and wound my yarn and took them away with me for the weekend, but didn’t get to them until Sunday.

There were a few issues, which I’ll get to later, but I managed to work to four or so inches from the underarms, which is a pretty good effort, about 25% of the total knitting, I think.
