Big Bird’s Legs

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

I have been knitting socks this year, as part of my challenge, I’ve just been really slack about posting photos.

Big Bird's Legs

This is one pair I made out of my own self-striping handdyed sock yarn, I had to keep this skein because the colourways remind me of a scarf my friend had when we were teenagers that we used to call Big Bird’s Legs.

This is just a basic pair of toe ups with a short row heel and a long-ish cuff. Fun!

Not that I do Spiraling stuff on work time…

I’ve been working a lot at my sometimes-day-job lately, which lead me to a really helpful discovery:

Architect's Notes

Our company notebooks are gridded note paper, which is perfect for designing knitwear charts.

They Say Necessity is the Mother of Invention

But I say laziness will do the trick.

Spaghetti ala Regia

Finding myself in the kitchen with my knitting and nothing to use as a cable needle (incidentally, when I’m in need of a cable needle, I generally reach for a KP needle tip or a darning needle), I reached for the (DRY) spaghetti canister and found the perfect substitution.

I will say though, that it freaks me out when one of the spaghettis snap when I’m using it, it makes me think I’ve broken another stupid KP Harmony needle.

Blue Mermaid Scales

I haven’t been slacking on my resolution knitting this month, either. I’m almost finished my upper body garment and have knit a few lace items, I just have to tackle the items for the feet (Perhaps Ysolda’s Grown Up Booties, they look nice and quick).

I’ve been going really gung-ho with our line of patterns, including this one, the Mermaid Scales cowl. It’s been test knit by some lovely people over on Ravelry and the pattern is ready to go. It comes in two sizes, regular and super slouchy and uses a single skein of worsted weight yarn, 6mm/ US10 needles and a darning needle.

It’s currently available as a PDF on Rav, here, costing $3US, or you can buy it using the paypal button below.
